Respect and Recognition…

I have been around for a very long time and every once in a while I will see someone talk down other researchers because they may not go as deep in the woods, or spend a lot of time in the woods, or maybe have not ever had any personal experiences. Bigfootology recognizes that there are many types of researchers and all are valuable. There are the deep-woods people, whom I admire because I do not do what they do. Then there are regular field researchers who go out in their local areas and collect evidences and experiences. Then there are the part-time book researchers who learn from reading books and analyzing new information as it comes in over the Internet, or out in new books. Finally there are the academics, the experts in their field of research that applies their expertise to Bigfoot research. These are people like Dr. John Bindernagel, Dr. Jeff Meldrum, myself, and Dr. Samuel Webb Sentell, among many others.

We all have a valuable part to play and often one kind of researcher crosses over into other kinds of research. To subjugate one kind of researcher or diminish their contribution is not right, nor is it proper. We all can learn something from someone, with very rare exception. Mutual respect, treating each other with dignity, and understanding the value that we each bring to the field makes this a worthwhile endeavor. It is the responsibility of those with much knowledge to educate those with less knowledge, like newcomers. No one should be made to feel inferior because they are a different kind or researcher or if they are a newcomer to the field.

Bigfootology makes these distinctions for recognition purposes. No one feels more appreciated than when they are recognized by others. That is why we have our badge system, to recognize the many different kinds of researchers, as well as others who contribute to the field of Bigfootology. People may disagree with each other, or not like what another person does, but the key is to be able to look beyond those differences and still acknowledge them for what they have contributed to the field. Some of you have names that have already popped up in your mind by reading this. We must remain objective and remove emotion from context in order to make proper and appropriate evaluations.

Finalizing the badges we have the following recognition catagories. Bigfoot Research Apprentice for newcomers to the field of less than one year who are doing active research. Legendary Bigfoot Researcher, or the Legacy recognition, for those with 20 years of active Bigfoot research and may be retired or deceased from the field. Recognized Bigfoot Artists has four current subcatagories and these individuals may be deceased or retired as well: Literary, visual, graphic, and musical to recognized various artists who have completed works regarding Bigfoot.  I will be posting the final criteria and what the badges look like soon.
